NSBE
The Future Kings NSBE-Jr chapter provides additional STEM opportunities for our program participants. However, our NSBE-Jr chapter is also open to students in grades 6 to 12 who are not members of the Future Kings program.
NSBE-Jr. is the pre-collegiate component of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). With more than 500 chapters and nearly 16,000 active members in the U.S. and abroad, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States. NSBE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1975, supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology. NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”
Future Kings operate a NSBE-Jr chapter named "Future Kings NSBE-Jr". Participants in the Future Kings program are automatically enrolled as members of the NSBE-Jr. chapter. There are workshop meetings with guest presenters, competitions, out-of-town conference, college fairs, and a Robotics team. In general, the program is college-oriented, helping to motivate students commit careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. As a member, students received a bi-annual magazine called NSBE’s BRIDGE. The Bridge magazine will have information on SAT/ACT, college admission, preparation assistance, scholarships, science fair, mentoring, and tutoring.
Membership in NSBE-Jr gives our participants early exposure to a number of post-high school assets. Although they are young, our participants are allowed to attend leadership training, professional development activities, mentoring, career placement services, as well as community service opportunities offered by NSBE to college students and practicing professionals. This attendance helps our chapter members to learn about networking at an early age. NSBE comprises 515 active chapters — 288 collegiate, 82 professional and 145 pre-collegiate — located in six geographic regions. The exposures to these individuals is an invaluable benefit to our chapter members.
